My research:
Balance
The Visual weight of a composition.
‘Visual harmony’
Between Size, position, spacing, elements, colour compatibility, shapes, lines, textures
Symmetrical balance is like a mirror reflection, distributed weight that is equal on each side of the axis. This is the most stable and comforting design; most peeling to the audience.
However, asymmetrical balance can work- they may not be mirror like or have the same weight, but appear to be balanced
Light / dark
Warmth/ coolness
Transparency
Symmetrical balance = formal balance
Asymmetrical balance = informal balance
‘A balanced layout creates visual harmony and order, an unbalanced layout creates tension.’

Balance is created around a central axis. There is different types of balance, horizontal, radical, and vertical.
Horizontal is balanced on a horizontal line, balanced between left and right; as seen on a chart below. Radical balance is when components are centered around the axis. Vertical balance is is above and below the central axis.
‘Any type of contrast can be employed in the striving for balance: still vs. moving, smooth vs. rough, wide vs. narrow, and on and on.’
