Tutorial with Lyndsey

my working title; how can you produce an animated cartoon series? My type of report; industry report - background ( the history of animated series, how it became, English, American an d japan Cartoons.)  - research question; ho w can you produce an animated cartoon series in the modern era . I need to re write the question. I need to focus On smaller areas instead of having such a wide coverage of different cultures of animation. For this reasoning I will only be focusing on American and English cartoons.  - overall aims; to look at different routes into distributing an animated cartoon, through companies/self distributing, look at the process from pre-production, production, pitching/ getting  funding, creating an successful series, target audience.  Overall looking at the reality of myself being able to create and successfully produce an animated series after graduating. I need to slim line my areas of research so I’m just going to focus on productio...

Looking into using WIX as an possible website

possible designs; template one This one is supposedly good for film students,  in which would be good to show off my animation work possibly? I like the colour pallet as it seems calm, well edited and friendly. However I feel with animation perhaps I need something for my dynamic and exciting and lively.. something that expresses energy, passion and movement; however I want something that expresses my personality and style of work. What I really like about this template is that it instantly has many portfolio work to show, and at the bottom it has clear paths. Its also like an positive instruction "Lets Collaborate", "stay updated" which in-away is friendly yet also pushes you to do so.

Second job search

Company; production base  Job title; animator  Description;’\animators produce  the motions, gestures of the three dimensional graphic characters and objects for high end vfx films’

Frog sticker/gif

For a short two week project, we had to create three sticker/gifs that reflect how we feel as animators and the different emotions we go through. To challenge us, our image had to begin and end with the peg bar holes. I decided to become a little bit inventive with mine, and adding a drawing I did on photoshop, I turned the peg bar holes to a part of the drawing on my frog.

team meet up; Friday 22nd March

Plan; - her hair - weaving - snow- earth - learn the fight moves - research trips - colour- snow, earthy, Scottish , cool vs warm colours - Celtic design We have decided these are the subject ares we wish to talk about with in our visual essay. We have chosen who is going to animate which subject area (mines being the face about the team needing to learn the geography of the fight!) and who's going to write the script. We still need to put people into direct roles, and decide the order of the information. Our plan for this week is to do story boards and animatics of our scene, hoever I would like push myself a bit more and do a story board to help collet ideas for my scene and maybe to help my team mates with theirs.

Colour workshop

Colour workshop Understanding colour and how to use it... Leon battista - first written researcher of how colours work and the psychological effects it has. Colour used to be expensive, but now a days is made sympathetically. Blues would be used for most significant colours; as these used semi precious stones to create blues. Colours are so social constructed relationships/representations too us. Paint technology changed styles of painting, the thickness of paint adapted art into the impressionist style and enabled people to paint quicker. Impressionist; speed, daring, colour bright. Complimentary colours. 3 main charteristics; Hue- blue, orange, green, pink, brown. Value- the light/darkness on the grey scale. intensity/ chroma/saturation - strength of colour brightness/dullness. A, Colour; Primary Secondary Tertiary Warm and cool. Theory- pure colours, practice - not pure colours.. always slightly biased. Grey scale Harmonious  Monoch...

Ten rules of composition - group presentation and my research.

My groups presentation;  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/18UeZjyvSVc9z1Nt5suClZ44cf_soQYaSKDeqMhBgNs0/edit?usp=sharing My research:  Balance   The Visual weight of a composition. ‘Visual harmony’ Between Size, position, spacing, elements, colour compatibility, shapes, lines, textures  Symmetrical balance is like a mirror reflection, distributed weight that is equal on each side of the axis. This is the most stable and comforting design; most peeling to the audience.  However, asymmetrical balance can work- they may not be mirror like or have the same weight, but appear to be balanced  Light / dark  Warmth/ coolness  Transparency  Symmetrical balance = formal balance  Asymmetrical balance = informal balance  ‘A balanced layout creates visual harmony and order, an unbalanced layout creates tension.’  (-https://www.marketing-partners.com/conversations2/10-effective-design-principle...

Composition rules and design

' Color choice, use of shapes, and page layout or composition can make or break your marketing’s effectiveness.' ' capturing the attention of the reader requires creating an area of focus. This can be done through use of a dominant element that is stronger than other parts of the page, and by placing it in an area we are naturally inclined to look.' https://www.marketing-partners.com/conversations2/10-effective-design-principles-you-need-to-know

Research into Brave

Research into brave, what I found interesting: Directors/ workers; - There was two directors; the first Brenda Chapman who created the original concept and film story. The second director, who replaced Brenda Chapman by Mark Andrew, who changed and developed parts of the story and character design to Merida.  Technology  & technique; - When Mark Andrew took over, he used the computer setting 'straggle' to change Media's original 'lined up and too uniformed', 'laser straight with a slight curl' hair to her final design of bouncy "wild" curls.  -  Do to issues with height difference between 'Merida' and 'Bear-Elinor' (one being 5"4 and the other 9") they had to 'Sink Elinor into the floor, to fit both characters into the same shot.'  - Filmmakers recorded children whispering to create the distinct sound of the Will O’ the Wisps. They wanted something that sounded both cute and mysterious' Using...

Collab project- visual essay

Visual essay no characters in full design; but abstracted ones are allowed. No horizon lines, requires a visual motif. must be an visual essay based on an animated film. My group has chosen the animated feature film 'Brave' -2012- Us- Disney- PIXAR to write our visual essay on.  We would like to write about the preproduction (ideas, concepts and research) to production (new technology formed, techniques ect.) Research into the production of 'Brave'; 'There has been some controversy surrounding Brave, due to the fact that Brenda Chapman was replaced as director, despite writing the film and originating the concept. Andrews explained that this was part of the way Pixar does things; the story is the most important thing, and sometimes a new perspective is needed.'-  https://www.wired.com/2012/06/brave-director/ 'Animators had to personally learn the choreography for the film’s fight scenes. They practiced with each other until they became...
